Week 8: yoga & code
With a just a week to go before the start of the bootcamp, I attended an Open Day on campus. For a half-day, I got to meet fellow bootcampers; a range of individuals from a range of backgrounds, studying web dev (majority), data science or data analytics. There were about 20 of us who attended this optional day, and we were told that there about 100 of us in total, across the 3 floors. At my table were a group of friendly 20-somethings.
I completed the prep work, which finished with Git and Figma. I'd assumed that these would be relatively straightforward, but there was a fair bit to take in; I had to remind myself that when using these in practice, it would click into place. Trying to read and learn lots of theory on its own is a lot more difficult; it reminded me of my choice to start with CS50(Python) over CS50x, to focus more on application rather than theory.
I'm looking forward to building, and being able to get the ideas in my head out onto the screen.
Last week also included 4 yoga classes(!) and meeting up with a couple of friends; during one of these meetups, I stumbled across my book in Waterstones. It was a nice way to mark the end of one chapter (and finally see my book in-store), and the beginning of a new one.
Speaking of yoga, there's a weekly lunchtime class on campus. I'm keen to continue to balance screen-time with self-care as the bootcamp begins, as I know weekdays will be long (9-to-6 plus commute), and how I manage my energy is going to be important.
